crevette: (Walken in a winter wonderland)

...and to all a good night.

I just posted on Facebook about the sobering thought that this is Liv's last Christmas as a child. She turns 18 in a little over two weeks. Even though Thom says that she'll always be our baby, I can't help but feel saddened by time's march.

I know she'll be home from college next year to celebrate, but eventually she's going to have her own family and her own children to celebrate with. I'm feeling incredibly sad about that. I know I can't trap her in amber and keep her as a child forever, but sometimes I wish I could.

*hugs to you*

Well...when she has her own children, that means you get free rein to spoil the bejeebus out of them, guilt free!

You know, it just occurred to me that I had first become involved in journalfen/lj over a decade ago, and *that* made me feel old - even more than the passage of time in my own life. The thought of your "child genius" as an adult is very sobering.

Happy Holidays to you and Thom and Liv!

A poignant moment indeed. She's lucky to have a mother who can make that separation between what Mom wants and what's best for Child. Hard, but so important in the development of the adult-adult relationship. My folks were both very good about that, and we continue to be close and able to talk easily (I'm 49 now), despite living on opposite sides of the country. I wish the same for you adn Thom and Liv.

Just made me realize how long I've been reading your LJ! I actually haven't been here in a while, and realized I had been missing out on reading about some great (and very funny!) people. My oldest is 13, and I'll be where you are before I know it. I'm scared too.
