Goslings golden rum.

It's a horrible habit I have. I drink when I write. For some reason the words seem to flow better and I don't have nearly as many second guesses and self edits when I've reached that very precise level. I'm not drunk. I'm mildly buzzed. I'm still functioning but I'm just happy and carefree enough that the story takes wing and goes onto that white page without me worrying about what people are going to think or what they're going to see IN ME when they read it.

I then go back the next day and tighten up and do small edits, but I force myself to keep the main gist of what I've done there.

I have been teaching myself to write completely bone dry sober but when I've got something particularly nerve-wracking to put down on paper, a little Jones sugar-free creme soda and golden rum comes in very handy.

Yes, I'm a lush. (but to be honest, part of that is from working in insurance 22 years.)

And if I ever get anything of any consequence sold, I'll be needing a liver transplant.

A relaxed state of mind can be a productive state of mind. The stereotype isn't especially fair either. *shrugs*

I've seen awful writers, passable writers, good writers, excellent writers, and awesome writers. I've fixed grammar errors and spelling errors for all of them. You qualify as an excellent writer at the very least.

You're a doll. But understand that what you see on my LJ isn't what I 'write' per se. My LJ is just me talking out loud and being me.

My writing is entirely different. (When my story goes up this weekend I'll post a link but I think people who don't 'know' me or my writing will be very surprised)

How are you feeling?

A person's writing style doesn't generally change though. Knowing this is how I detect sockpuppets. Some folks don't realise just how close their writing style is to a unique fingerprint. For example, some folks consistently misspell the same words the same way. Or they use the ellipsis correctly where others never do.

I'm looking forward to that. :)

How are you feeling?

At the moment - like someone sitting in a very comfortable chair in a room that is devoid of any other humanity. Physically, I feel good but I'm sure that'll change as soon as this evil concoction of chemicals takes effect. On the plus side, I've heard Minnie Ripperton already this morning so nothing worse is permitted to happen the rest of the day. :)

Well, you're in the right state, anyway, Hemingway.

Exactly how did you come up with that combination? I would never have thought of it in a million.

I pour in the creme soda over ice, and then add rum to taste. I don't measure because I like my drinks STRONG (I tend to just drink straight)

Rum! That's... brilliant. I understand perfectly. Just a little bit of booze in the ol' system to loosen up the internal censors and editors. Sometimes, just not giving a damn can help a piece of writing. Lush? Liver concerns? Hey! Screw that! You have two livers, right?

Wait..
